Great Basin College - Pahrump Valley Center
Great Basin College (GBC) - Pahrump Valley Center, is located in a 16 classroom, 34,000 square foot brick building adjacent to the Pahrump Valley High School, and was funded by a $3.5 million grant from the Nevada Legislature and a $1.3 million U.S. Economic Development Admin. grant. It opened for classes in September of 2001.
The facility has a computer lab and features a physics lab, a 1,200 square foot arts room, and video conferencing capabilities. Classes cover a wide range of subjects, all aimed at earning an Associate degree. University transfer and Career and Technical Education courses are taught in all areas of science and humanities. Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degree programs are currently available. The degrees prepare students for satisfying careers in a variety of areas, and provide entry into GBC's bachelor degree programs or easy transfer to other schools in the Nevada System of Higher Education. 
In addition to the Pahrump Valley Center, GBC courses will be delivered to communities throughout Nye County using an assortment of distance education technologies, including Interactive Video and Internet delivery. Plans are in the making for the construction of a campus center on the southeastern edge of Pahrump. Great Basin College was founded in 1967 and provides for the higher education needs of rural Nevada. It is a member institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education. Its 62,000 square mile service area encompasses Elko, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Nye and White Pine counties, touching the borders of California, Idaho, Oregon and Utah.
